The Feedlot Cattle Handling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to the daily handling of cattle in the feedlot, ensuring the well-being, health, proper nutrition, and productive performance of the herd. This role involves leading and guiding the animal handling team, ensuring the application of established protocols, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Responsibilities: include to lead, train, motivate, and evaluate the animal handling team, including feeders, cowboys, and other personnel; clearly and efficiently distribute tasks and responsibilities; ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); resolve conflicts and issues related to the team; foster a collaborative and productive work environment. Regarding animal handling: coordinate and participate in animal movement between pens and facilities, ensuring animal welfare and minimizing stress; oversee weighing, identification, and other routine handling procedures; monitor animal behavior, identifying signs of illness, injury, or other health problems; ensure the availability and proper functioning of equipment and facilities used in handling; implement and monitor animal health protocols, including vaccination, deworming, and ectoparasite control, under the guidance of the responsible veterinarian; identify sick or injured animals and provide initial care, contacting the veterinarian when necessary and ensure compliance with animal welfare standards. Regarding reports: maintain accurate and up-to-date records of handling activities, health, and animal movement; prepare periodic reports on herd performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement; communicate any relevant occurrences to his superior. Also, participate in identifying opportunities for improvement in handling processes, collaborate in the implementation of new techniques and technologies to optimize production and animal welfare, stay updated on best practices in feedlot cattle handling and perform other tasks related to livestock production as needed and as requested by management. Requirements: Desirable technical degree in agriculture, animal husbandry, or related fields. A bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or Agronomy will be considered a plus. Experience in cattle handling, preferably in feedlot systems, with experience in team leadership. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of feedlot beef cattle handling practices, basic knowledge of animal health and welfare, proficiency in the use of livestock equipment and facilities, basic computer skills (Microsoft Office), leadership and team management, effective communication (oral and written), organizational and planning skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and observation skills, ability to work under pressure, proactivity and initiative. Conditions: Work in a rural environment, with exposure to weather variations, dust, and noise, availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by production needs. |
